Social Issues in A Dwarf Launches a Little Ball Viewed Through SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)
Abstract
This study aims to reinterpret the social issues raised in Cho Se-hee‘s “A Dwarf Launches a Little Ball (hereafter ”Nan·Sso·Gong“)“, published in the 1970s, from the perspective of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The social issues raised in ”Nan·Sso·Gong“ in South Korea at the time include poverty, educational inequality, urban development and the displacement of displaced residents, workers‘ rights, environmental pollution, and corruption. By comparing the issues identified in ”Nan·Sso·Gong“ with SDGs 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 11, 12, 14, and 16, this study confirms that Korea's industrialization experiences in the 1970s are deeply connected to the universal challenges facing developing countries today. This suggests the potential for "Nan·Sso·Gong” to serve as a core text for SDGs, ESD, and civic education.
