Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze whether the experience of respecting opinions perceived by adolescents affects subjective well-being and to verify the mediating effect of self-esteem on the effect of the experience of respecting opinions on subjective well-being. From September to October 2024, online and paper questionnaires were distributed to adolescents in K City, Gyeonggi Province. Data from 898 respondents were analyzed. Key research findings include the following. First, adolescents' experiences of having their opinions respected were found to have a positive effect on their subjective well-being. Second, self-esteem was found to mediate the relationship between adolescents' experiences of having their opinions respected and their subjective well-being. Based on these findings, practical and policy measures to improve adolescents' experiences of having their opinions respected, self-esteem, and subjective well-being were proposed.
